Can you make friends at a commuter college? It's harder but possible.

Perimeter College is mostly commuters. People come to class, then leave. One student described it perfectly: "Because it's a commuter college, everyone just comes to classes and then goes home. No real campus life and it's hard to hear about the activities that are happening on campus."

Another student agreed: "making friends isn't super difficult but a lot of people would say that the friends they made here were just school friends. You'll see people in the student center or library during peak times (10am -3pm) but the majority of people just go to class and go home."

So how DO you make friends?

Students say the key is being intentional. A sophomore wrote: "It is kind of hard to make friends but if you're outgoing it might be easier for you."

Tips from current students:

• Hang out in the student center between classes
• Join study groups for difficult classes
• Look for club meetings (even if there aren't many)
• Talk to people in class — you're all in the same boat

The good news? You still get access to all of Georgia State's events downtown . So even if Perimeter's campus is quiet, you can go to GSU events and meet more people.

I'm an introvert, so this is terrifying. But I'm trying. Anyone at Perimeter want to be friends?

The downtown GSU events tip is underrated. Perimeter students get full access to everything at the Atlanta campus—sports, concerts, guest speakers, club meetings.

I started going to basketball games alone. Felt weird at first. But there's a whole section of students and eventually I started chatting with people around me. Made a few friends that way.

Also, there's a shuttle from Perimeter to Atlanta campus. Free for students. Use it.

If Perimeter feels dead, go where the life IS. You're still a GSU student.
