What I've learned about finding internships as a KSU student

I spent my first two years at Kennesaw State worried that being at a non-flagship school would hurt my internship prospects. After talking to upperclassmen and reading student reviews, I realize I was wrong.

The resources are there, but you have to use them. A business student wrote: “The career center helped me polish my resume and practice interviews. I got two offers by the end of my junior year” . Another said: “The Handshake platform has hundreds of internship postings. You just have to check it regularly” .

Professors are underrated connectors. One review mentioned: “I got my internship because my professor recommended me to a former student who was hiring” . Another said: “Go to office hours. Get to know your professors. They know people in industry” .

The career fairs are competitive but not impossible. A student said: “The fall fair is packed. Go in the spring when it's smaller. The recruiters have more time to talk” .

You have to be proactive. A recurring theme in reviews was: “Don't wait for opportunities to come to you. Join a club, go to a networking event, set up informational interviews. KSU has the resources, but you have to show up” .

I've started using Handshake, scheduled a career center appointment, and I'm attending office hours this week. I'm not waiting anymore. For other KSU students, what's been your experience with internships? Where did you find your opportunities?
