I'm a CS major. I don't write essays. But I almost paid someone to write one for me

I'm a CS major. People think my life is just coding. It's not. I have humanities requirements. Gen eds. Writing classes. Classes where the professor expects me to have opinions about poetry. I don't have opinions about poetry. I have opinions about algorithms.

Poetry is just ... words arranged in a way that doesn't compile. Last semester, I had to write a 10-page paper about symbolism in some novel I didn't read. I tried to read it. I really did. But after three pages, I wanted to throw the book across the room.

I googled "best essay writing service" and found this Medium list — medium.com/@antonvalich/top-6-essay-writing-services-in-2026 — and I actually filled out the order form. I typed in my credit card information. I was one click away from submitting. But then I thought about my advisor. She's the reason I switched to CS. She saw something in me that I didn't see in myself. And if she found out I cheated? I couldn't handle that disappointment. So I closed the tab. I wrote the worst paper of my academic career. I got a D. The professor wrote "see me" in red ink. I went to her office. She said "Marcus, this is terrible. But it's honest. Let's work on it together." We spent three hours going over the paper. She taught me how to write an essay. Like, actually write one. Not code. Words. Sentences. Arguments. I got a B on the rewrite.

And I learned something: sometimes being bad at something is the first step to being less bad. You can't skip the bad part. You have to live through it.
