After getting scammed three times (yes, I'm an idiot), I finally found something that works. Not a writing service — a tutor. An actual human who meets with me weekly and helps me improve my own writing.
I found her through my university's writing center. Free for students. I'd walked past that building a hundred times and never gone in because I thought it was for people who were "bad" at writing. Turns out it's for everyone.
My tutor doesn't write anything for me. She asks questions. "What are you trying to say here?" "Why does this matter?" "How does this connect to your thesis?" She makes me figure it out myself, but she guides me there. My last paper got a B+. First B+ all semester. Not an A, but way better than the C's I was getting. And I actually understand what I did right. I feel like I'm learning, not just surviving.
If you're struggling with essays, please try your writing center before you waste money on sketchy services. It's free. It's helpful. It won't scam you.
