Is remote jobs for students worth it?

Is it all rainbows and unicorns or just a massive headache waiting to happen? As a tech-savvy, problem-solving creative soul, I'm torn between the convenience of working from my dorm (hello, comfy PJs!) and missing out on those in-person team collaborations that fuel my projects. I gotta say, fixing bugs while sipping coffee in bed sounds pretty sweet. But then again, bouncing ideas off classmates face-to-face has its charm too. 🤔

Any Georgia peeps have experience with remote gigs? How do you cope with the lack of hands-on guidance from professors? And most importantly, where do you find the best virtual internships or part-time gigs in our neck of the woods?

Remote work gives you freedom, but the lack of mentorship is real. Studies show fresh grads struggle with limited guidance and feeling isolated when working remotely .

Here's my survival strategy:
  • Schedule virtual coffee chats with classmates working on similar stuff
  • Join Georgia-specific student groups on Slack/Discord
  • Use the GSPE job board—they specialize in engineering-adjacent roles and actually verify employers
Also, the Calvin University podcast on gig work mentions that flexibility comes at the cost of job security .
