Throwaway account for obvious reasons. I've been a freelance writer for various essay services for about three years. I see a lot of misconceptions here, and I want to give you the inside scoop.

First, we don't get paid much. I make about $15 for a standard page, which means I have to churn out work fast. That's why some papers feel rushed.

Second, if you want a good paper, be specific in your instructions. 'Write about history' will get you garbage. Give me a detailed outline, specific sources, and your professor's grading rubric. Third, the 'PhD' writer you're paying extra for? Probably still me, just with a fake profile. The platform takes the extra money, not me. Use this info wisely.

I used essay services heavily my first two years of college (working full-time, no support, drowning). I always wondered what the writer's side looked like.

The $15/page stat explains so much. I had papers that were clearly rushed—typos, weak arguments, weird phrasing. I also had papers that were great. Now I know the difference was probably whether I gave detailed instructions and whether the writer had time that week.

The "PhD writer" scam is infuriating but not surprising. These platforms exploit everyone—students AND writers. They charge us premium rates while paying you poverty wages. Gross.

For anyone reading this thread: use Erica's advice. Be specific. Share rubrics. Request revisions. But also, try your school's writing center first. It's free and actually teaches you something.

Erica, I hope you find a way out of this grind. You deserve better than $15/page. 💙
