As an Atlanta Metropolitan State College alumna (Go Trailblazers! I've found my way back to academia, but this time on the other side of the fence. I'm mentoring students now and One of the kiddos I'm working with is considering going to University College Los Angeles (UCLA). Apart from being floored by their academic prowess (come on, who doesn't dream of being Bruin? They're attracted by the vibrant campus life that's almost legendary there.

You know what mean? The hiccup here? They're planning to juggle part-time work with their studies. Now, don't get me wrong, I've seen many pull it off successfully here in Georgia. But UCLA isn't exactly down the road from Atlanta, is it? And different colleges, different dynamics. During my AMC days, worked part-time at local bookstore. That was manageable because had an understanding boss who got the whole student-worker gig. What made it work for me was setting clear boundaries about my availability and staying organized with my coursework deadlines. But hey, every college has its own beat ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

So are there any Bruins on here who can shed some light on this matter? How did you balance work and studies while soaking up that quintessential UCLA experience? Did the college offer any support for working students?
