My secret weapon: the essay grader pre-write

I think I’ve discovered a cheat code, and I just have to share it with someone! 🙌 We all know the feeling of staring at a blank document for an hour, right? Well, the other day I had a 5-page paper due on marine biology conservation methods. Instead of just starting to write, I opened up the essay grader tool and typed in my thesis statement and a few bullet points of ideas.

Then, I just started feeding it really rough, messy paragraphs. Like, embarrassingly bad drafts. And you know what? Seeing it passively highlight my lack of transitions and weak vocabulary in real-time actually helped me form my thoughts. It was like having a conversation with someone who asks annoying but helpful questions.

By the time I had a full draft, the "issues" were already half-fixed because I was writing with the feedback loop in mind. It turned the writing process from a solo dread-fest into a weird, interactive game. Has anyone else tried using the grader as a writing partner instead of just a proofreader?

I tried something similar last semester but with a different platform. It’s wild how much easier it is to write when you know something is watching and judging you in real-time. 😂 It forces you to actually think about your word choice as you go. My only warning: don’t let it rewrite stuff for you automatically. Keep it as a mirror, not a ghostwriter. Otherwise, you end up with a paper that sounds like a robot wrote it, and professors can totally tell.
