Balancing Character Development and Plot Advancement: Any Suggestions?

Hey there! On the topic of balancing character development and plot advancement, I've found that it's bit of dance. You don't want to leave your readers in the dark about who your characters are, but you also don't want the plot to stall while you're deep in character building. During my creative writing class at Georgia State, our professor emphasized 'show, don't tell' tbh. Instead of explicitly writing about your character's traits, let them be revealed naturally through their actions or dialogue.

It’s about slipping in small details here and there. For example, instead of saying "John is generous man", you could write "John sliced his last loaf of bread in half and handed it to the shivering stranger". And remember, conflicts or challenges are excellent opportunities for characters to show their true colors while keeping the plot moving. It’s like killing two birds with one stone. Just my two cents! Anyone else got any useful tips?
